5 Songs to Die For

I've been tagged by Beepbeepitsme. The theme of this "tag" (phew, "internet meme" cleverly avoided... d'oh!) is to list 5 tunes that you'd like played at your funeral.

Normally I don't take this sort of thing seriously at all, so we'll see how we go with this:

I have a couple written into my previous Will, so I better put those in:

1. The Gambler - Kenny Rogers
2. Loser - Beck

So that leads us to three more songs which is going to be tricky.

So how about these:

3. Ding Dong the Witch is Dead - The cast of The Wizard of Oz
4. Dead - The Pixies

And I probably need a nice one to finish up, particularly if I have a night funeral followed by a wake:

5. Under the Milky Way Tonight - The Church

I missed out a few that would fit this theme nicely, actually:

Good Die Young (The Divinyls), Asshole (Dennis Leary), Eulogy (Tool), Say Hello to the Angels (Interpol)

That's done. I might leave this tag open this time - pop me as comment if you have a go at this.

Oh, I nearly was going to use "Under the Milky Way" as well. Jimmy Little does a good version of this too.

I really like Beck's "Loser" song. He is a weird artist but great.

Ted: Thanks. I liked it too. Thank you Naked Gun 2 1/2.

Beep: I quite like Little's version of this. Must buy the album that hwe put it out on one day.

And Beck - the guy is a genre unto himself. Love him.

Great list!

I don't think I could pick anything that would top it.

Thanks Einzige, although I would be certain that you'd find something in the way of nice minimalist electronic music.

Hi Dikkii - thanks for some ideas, I'm actually after some funeral music for real, and have been all over the web searching - Got some great ideas! Although maybe not 'Ding dong the witch is dead', as much as I would love to use it, I know the rels will def' veto when I'm no longer able to object! I just know my mother would anyhow! How 'bout choir boys - 'Run to Paradise' or Otis Redding - 'I can see clearly now' and just about anyone's version of 'Stand by me'! Am going to insist on Gracie Fields - 'Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye' as everyone leaves. The real problem is you can only fit in about 3-4 songs. Then I thought you should be able to have something representative of every decade in your life! How would your selections go then??

Nice selection, TICBTA. The Gracie Fields is an excellent add. Found it on YouTube:

Oh the one for each decade sounds interesting. I can remember Stevie Wonder's Hey Duke coming on the car radio as I went to school when I was very young - that could be good too.

Sad to hear that you're terminally ill, but I wish you all the best. You sound positive.
