RE: "It is my belief that the talent and good looks of the cast, the toe-tapping melodies, the edge-of-seat drama of the plotline and the occasionally witty volleys of dialogue in the production have, for more than 40 years, successfully masked a very awful truth: that every single character in The Sound of Music is a bastard."

LMAO!

Oddly enough, I'm a theater grad but I also hate musicals.

I had to sit through "The Sound of Music" in a film history class once. It was the most horrifying experience I've ever had that didn't involve intense physical pain and/or spiders.

I must admit that I found The Sound of Music, growing up, to be largely inoffensive, but now I think it's more than just a little twee and amazingly quaint.

I can't say I see it as a horrifying experience to sit through like you did, Jenner, but let's just ask me the question:

If it was on the tube tonight, would I voluntarily watch it again?

The answer is, "Not on your life!"

I need to show that to the ex-girlfriend who evilly made me sit through that travesty of a film. She'll crap herself in consternation.

Good luck with that - your ex might get a bit, I won't say "violent" but, well, upset, anyway.

Fans of this movie are a bit fanatical about it.
